Times of Turmoil is now also available to buy on Nook, Kobo, iTunes, my own webstore, and Smashwords . When I published it in April, I put it into Amazon's KDP Select so I could get some momentum going with it. I might've stayed in it, if I had more borrows, but I had 12 for it, and I managed to get 2286 downloads from the 5 free days. The other novel I have in Select, Beyond the New Frontier, has done worse, having half of the downloads that Times of Turmoil has since October of last year, probably because people aren't all that into mixing genres like alternate history, political thrillers, and time travel. I bet if I were to write something with vampires, zombies, orcs, elves, or dragons, I'd probably do far better in KDP Select than I do, but except for watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer or the Resident Evil series, I don't go out of my way to read those genres (I have read Eragon and the next two books in the series, along with The Sword and the Dragon by M.R. Mathias, and The Hobbit) and have no desire to write anything in those genres. Although, I have plans to write a novel that takes place before Noah's Flood, with dinosaurs, humans, giants, etc. all in a similar level of technology we have today, so I might delve into some fantasy. But, right now I'm stuck on a story where I know the ending, but I'm struggling with the middle. Anyway, as far as promotion goes, I find lowering my prices for my novels to $.99 every once in a while helps a lot more than free days, at least on Kindle.
