A Note About This Edition

Going Back to Yesteryear and Into the Unknown Future are the first two books created by dividing the original Second Chances novel into separate volumes. If you have already read the complete edition released before September 2026, you do not need to reread these books. The core story is the same, simply divided into two volumes with new titles and covers. 

At forty-seven, Nathan Brooks has spent years carrying regrets about the past, especially the family struggles that shaped him and the girl he never got the chance to know better. Then one night, Nathan makes an impossible wish: to be thirteen again and start over.

The next morning, he wakes up in 1987. Suddenly, Nathan is living in his childhood home with his parents and siblings decades younger, reconnecting with old friends, riding his bike through a world of arcades, cassette tapes, video stores, and Saturday-morning cartoons. And then there’s Gwen Donnelly, the girl he once cared about, but lost touch with when his family moved away.

As Nathan returns to school, rebuilds old friendships, reconnects with his family, and gets to know Gwen again, he begins to wonder whether this second chance is about changing the past, or finally appreciating the life he once took for granted.
